What is SPLOST?
SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) was established in 1985. It is a 1% sales tax applied to each dollar spent in Chatham County, with an average of 40% of the money collected coming from visitors.
SPLOST funds a variety of projects, from recreation to roadwork to drainage. Anyone visiting Chatham County contributes by paying local sales tax when they buy gas, enjoy a meal, or stay in a hotel. In addition to the nearly 20 million visitors to our community each year, residents of neighboring counties also spend money here daily, helping fund these local projects.
The City of Pooler will use SPLOST 8 to continue to invest in the core priorities of Public Safety, Roads, Drainage, Recreation and Civic Investments.
