If you’re a student who is passionate about your community and serving others, Pooler Youth Council is the place to start.
The Pooler Youth Council (PYC) is a leadership program for high school students who want to get involved, make a positive impact, and help shape Pooler’s future. Through hands-on experiences with local government and community service, members develop leadership skills, gain valuable knowledge, and make a meaningful difference in their city.

Program Overview
Pooler Youth Council gives young people the chance to become actively engaged in their community while gaining firsthand experience in local government, leadership development, public service, and civic responsibility. Members share ideas, learn from city leaders, take part in community initiatives, and build skills that prepare them for future leadership opportunities.
Program Schedule
The program runs September through May, annually. Members are required to attend:
- Monthly Pooler Youth Council meetings
- Monthly City Council meetings
- Select special events and community activities
- One overnight trip to the Georgia State Capitol in February
Eligibility & Expectations
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the requirements stated on the Pooler Youth Council Membership Application, and should:
- Be a resident of the City of Pooler
- Be in 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the current school year
- Be committed to serving their community
- Have leadership potential and a willingness to learn
- Have the ability to actively participate in required meetings and events
- Be responsible, professional, and have respect for others
- Be interested in local government and civic engagement
- Be open-minded and willing to work with their peers
Member Expectations
Youth Council members are expected to:
- Attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings
- Engage in meaningful discussion on community issues and opportunities
- Represent the City of Pooler with professionalism and integrity
- Take part in select City Council meetings and City events
- Serve as positive representatives of youth voices in the community

Members gain valuable experience by:
- Learning how local government operates
- Engaging with elected officials and city leadership
- Understanding community needs and challenges
- Developing communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
- Building relationships through civic participation and service
Program Completion Recognition
Members who complete the program requirements will be honored at a City Council meeting in appreciation of their commitment, leadership, and service to the community.
