The City of Pooler Fire-Rescue is deploying personnel and equipment to assist with ongoing wildfire suppression efforts in Brantley County, where crews are actively working to contain the growing Brantley–Highway 82 Fire near Nahunta.
Pooler Fire-Rescue’s Brush 601 and two personnel will be operating on 12-hour shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., deploying daily to the incident and returning each evening. At this time, fire activity has been reduced overnight, allowing crews to safely rotate without extended overnight operations.
The wildfire has grown to approximately 5,000 acres and is currently 10% contained. Officials report that 47 homes and structures have been destroyed, underscoring the severity of the incident and the ongoing need for regional support.
“Our personnel are trained and prepared for this type of response, and we are committed to supporting our partners in Brantley County during this challenging incident,” said Fire Chief Wade Simmons. “Wildland fires of this scale require coordinated, sustained efforts, and we are proud to contribute to protecting lives and property.”
The designated staging area for responding units is located at the Brantley County Airport (31553 U.S. Highway 82, Nahunta, GA).
At this time, there is no projected end date for operations, and Pooler Fire-Rescue personnel will continue to assist as needed. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available from crews on the ground. For more information, please contact:
